All of these are items in the past that have been used as a tax write off. However, in 2018 with the new tax reform these items have been eliminated. Most likely the hardest hit will be the truck drivers who receive a W2. In the past you have been able to use deductions and per diem for days out, this year no deductions will be allowed.
Another huge impact will be mileage being eliminated. This is for W2 filing tax payers only. Schedule C, will still be allowed these deductions. If you drive for work and are not reimbursed you will no longer be able to claim mileage for your tax return in 2018. If your employer has not already offered to provide you mileage or fuel reimbursement, this may be a discussion you want to initiate. Common deductions on the 2106, but not limited to are as follows: Uniforms Work shoes Dry cleaning for professionals Per diem and truck driving deductions Tools Police officer equipment Mileage
